James rubbed the back of his neck, his gaze sweeping over the stage one last time, making sure to pay attention to the knickknacks on the shelves. His bow definitely wasn’t here. What the hell could he have done with it? He hadn’t been anywhere else. The only explanation would be that someone in the cast had … He rolled his eyes, tucking his violin under his arm and debating whether to check Vanessa’s dressing room or his own first.

He rapped on her door three times, opening it anyway when there was no response. “Vanessa…?” He walked in, taking a look about to see if she had hidden it. He wouldn’t put it past her to plant it somewhere with a message attached to it for him to find. Or to hide it just to screw with him. He didn’t see his bow, but he did see that her trench coat was still here, which meant she was prowling about the theatre somewhere.

Pushing his dressing room door open, the hinges squeaking familiarly, he found her sitting on his vanity counter, with one leg crossed over the other and a smirk playing across her plump lips. She was completely naked – except for the pumps dangling off her feet. That didn’t faze him. It turned him on, but it didn’t faze him. His attention was on his bow and her deliberate strokes of the horsehair over her palm. He almost winced, imagining the oils of her hand coating the strands. “Vanessa! You’re gonna ruin it!”

“I’ll buy you a new one. C’mere.”

“Vanessa, I need it for tomorrow. We’re in a show, remember? Eight times a week?” Even as he complained, he obeyed, walking to stand in front of her. Unable to help himself, he reached out and stilled her hands.

“Then I’ll give you money tonight and you can buy a new one tomorrow,” she sighed, drawing her scarlet lips together in a pout. “Now stop yelling and kiss me.” She laughed naughtily into his mouth as he complied, wrapping his arms around her curvy waist and pressing his lips against hers. Raising the bow, she dragged it down side of his neck, making him shudder as the fibers brushed over his skin.

“Vanessa!” he gasped, grabbing her hand. “Stop! You’re getting oil from our skin all over the hair.”

She smirked, disentangling their hands and tilting the bow backwards, absently running it over her shoulder and down between her breasts. “I’m hoping to get some, uhm, other fluids,” she winked, laughing deep in her throat as he flushed, “on it before the evening’s through.”

“Van – I-I, you…” he stuttered, grey-green eyes wide to play along with her scenario. Shaking his head, he ‘gathered himself’ and told her mock-sternly, “Vanessa, if we can’t find another bow, I’m not going to have time to clean this one before tomorrow’s performance.”

She quirked a brow at him, her caramel eyes sparkling in amusement. “James, are you trying to say I’m dirty?”

“No,” he muttered, trying to yank the bow away from her.
